Here is what it looks like to begin to change your life:
You have patterns of thoughts that you have been thinking for years, maybe all your life, that have propelled you to where you are right now. And where you are right now is a not exactly where you want to be.
Maybe you thought you would be wealthier by now. That you would have more in your retirement accounts, have a lot more in your checking and savings accounts but no matter what you do it keeps being the same small dribbles in, if any at all.
Or maybe you thought you would be in a balanced, giving and nourishing coupled relationship by now. You know, the relationship where you don’t have to explain yourself all the time, where you feel safe and secure enough to completely be yourself, where you can say anything and be heard and validated. The relationship where you feel not only desired but also valued as the unique and worthy being that you are. Where there is empowered compromise and fair energy exchanges instead of one person being taken advantage of.
Maybe you thought your physical, mental or emotional health would be in a better place. A place where you felt like you were in charge instead of your thoughts, emotions or physical limitations running you around in circles.
You had hoped that by now you would be a top-quality decision making, high functioning adult but you feel like you keep falling short of that. You may find yourself still unsure of who you want to be when you grow up. Or if you do know, you have no idea what it looks like, how to get there, or when you will even know when you have made it there.
And you just don’t think you have the energy for it.
Most days you barely make it through the workday at the job or business that is sucking the life out of you, where you feel invisible, over worked and underpaid, or just plain miserable because you are getting nowhere fast and you are no closer to your dream life than you were 1 year ago... or 5 years ago... or 10.
Sometimes life throws up way more than you can handle and each day is just getting by and getting through. It is literally just one step in front of the other because that is all you know to do. Just keep moving forward and eventually, eventually you will find the path that you have been waiting for. The path that makes your life easier, simpler and wealthier.
But you are exhausted from looking, trying, missing the mark, and still don’t know what to do because you have tried everything you know to do and you still aren’t there.
And yet, this is the first part of what changing your life looks like.
Being in a place mentally, emotionally or physically in your everyday life where you feel like something is wrong. That you are uncomfortable, in pain, or know that you know that this is not the place for you.
It is the first part because it is the place of decision. You get to decide if you want to linger in this place until the pain gets so bad that you can no longer bear it and are willing to do anything, ANYTHING, to change the situation. Or if you are willing to move now, before suffering becomes your way of life.
The human experience no longer requires suffering for us to learn. You are allowed to make choices for change at the first instance of incongruence, of misalignment, or of ‘this is not the life I want for myself’. The first instance. But many of us have lingered in those places of misalignment until it became way too painful to bear before we finally made the choice to change.
And in that choice to change we thought we needed to blow up our life to make that change happen. And that also is no longer required in the human experience. We don’t have to implode, explode, or demolish aspects of ourselves or our lives to have our lives change.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be effort, reprogramming, making new choices and taking new actions because it absolutely will require those things. But those things don’t have to come from a place of pain, uncertainty, and throwing darts at the wall to see what sticks.
You can be guided in the process, given tools and resources that actually help you move through and out of where you currently are, toward where you want to go and then into the life you want to be living.
